From the Head of School

Welcome to the 2012 Duke School Auction!

I am very pleased to welcome you to this year’s auction, sponsored by the Duke School Parent Service Organization.

Each year the auction raises money for the Janet Clement Tuition Aid Fund, the Parent Service Organization’s activities, and special items requested by the teachers and the administration.  In addition to Tuition Aid and the PSO’s activities, this year the proceeds will be used to improve the lower school library including new library furniture and other enhancements to the facility; additional improvements to the outdoor learning environment at the preschool; and our faculty have small improvements they would like to make to most of the classrooms.

This year's special FUND A NEED highlights the hottest new technology in the nation...the iPad!   Our preschool, lower school and middle school teachers have all identified exciting and dynamic applications of iPads in their classrooms and field research.  iPads will give all students more computer access which will enable them to better leverage internet based research and mobile application technologies.

In recent years, we have raised funds to purchase smart boards for the classroom, activity buses that take our students to field experiences, athletic events, and community service opportunities.  Additionally, we have expanded the preschool playground and supplied the middle school with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) equipment.

I want to extend a particular thank you to Connie Semans, chair, and Sarah Parker, co-chair of this year’s auction, the auction committee, staff, volunteers, teachers, and students, all of whom have contributed to this event, for their service to the school.

But tonight is about fun!  The Auction Committee has worked hard to make this not just a successful fundraising event, but a great and lively party that brings all of us together for an evening of food, laughter and fun!

Let this be a record night!

Dave
